Jackie Woods

Senior Costs Draftsman

Jackie has in excess of 29 years’ experience in legal costs, working both in-house and externally.  She has recently been engaged in the drafting of Multi-Track Bills and Budgets, for clinical negligence, and personal injury cases, but she also has experience of wider civil litigation, including property and commercial disputes. Over her lengthy costs career, Jackie has worked for both Claimants and Defendants, and has undertaken all aspects of the costs process, from cradle to grave, to include preparation of forms Precedent H, Precedent R and Precedent T; Budget negotiations and attendance at CCMC hearings; preparing Bills (Precedent S and Traditional) and Schedules of Costs, dealing with Part 8 proceedings, negotiations and attendance at Detailed Assessment hearings.  Her current role sees her working in a drafting capacity, preparing both Bills and Budgets, and dealing with Budget negotiations.

Jackie has experience of mentoring and training junior fee earners, and has worked on a variety of interesting cases over the years, to include, preparing a Bill of Costs in a matter involving a dispute over the removal of an ancient tree by the owners of a residential property, in the face of strong opposition by locals and attracting national press attention; preparing a £600,000.00 Bill of Costs in a matter involving the miners’ compensation scheme; preparing a Bill of Costs involving two brothers who set up rival skip hire firms; dealing with costs negotiations and the preparation of Points of Dispute on a complex and large value matter relating to the sale of an oil field and machinery; dealing with negotiations on a matter involving a CFA assignment and successfully objecting to the success fee entitlement owing to lack of informed consent, saving the client £600,000.00.

Outside of work, Jackie is an avid gig goer and music lover, with wide ranging musical tastes, from Billy Joel to Flaming Lips.  She enjoys playing the drums, spending quality time with friends and family, going walking and trips to the local cinema, which still has a Wurlitzer organ taking pride of place.
